As part of the PRIME- and INPACT-funded HRSA grant, which provides scholarships, laptops, and programming to all IU School of Medicine students, the School is required to have every student apply for a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number by July 15. It should take five minutes or less. Be sure to consult these directions to help you through the process.
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services administers the NPI numbers. The National Provider Identifier (NPI) is a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Administrative Simplification Standard. The NPI is a unique identification number required for all covered health care providers. The NPI is a 10-digit number that identifies providers by state and by medical specialty.
