Strategic Student Survey

The Strategic Student Survey (S3) is a comprehensive feedback tool designed with input from IU School of Medicine students, staff, and faculty across all nine campuses. The aim? To gather actionable insight for continuous improvement and rapid intervention.

By comparing student experience across all four years, the S3 complements national Association of Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) questionnaires like the Graduation Questionnaire (GQ), helping the school benchmark its performance against other medical schools.

Why take the S3?

Your feedback matters. Here are just a few examples of improvements made based on past S3 responses:

  • Phase 1: Transitioned all courses to a single statewide recorded lecture video for consistency.
  • Phase 2 and 3: Added a study day and clerkship NBME voucher before every NBME clerkship exam, as well as expanding the OB-GYN rotation from four to six weeks.
  • Overall: Introduced new lead advisors and expanded the Department of Mental Health Services to address students’ diverse needs.

S3 dates

Students will be notified in the MD Student News email newsletter when the phase-specific S3 survey periods open.

Who sees S3 feedback?

Survey results, both campus-specific and statewide, are shared with deans, regional campus directors and governance committees to inform annual curriculum changes.

High participation is crucial for obtaining valid, impactful results.
